A loyal customer of our original Berkeley store, retired army officer Key Dickason brought the idea for our most beloved blend to Mr. Peet in 1969. Intrigued, our founder worked with the local gourmand and coffee aficionado to refine it. They sampled countless combinations before arriving at what is now our all-time bestseller. The result was so good, Alfred Peet decided naming it after his friend wasn't enough — Dickason's rich, complex blend also deserved a promotion from sergeant to major.
Major Dickason's combines the best origin coffees from the world's premier growing regions, each imparting its distinctive regional characteristics while still effortlessly rounding into a smooth, balanced cup. Over the years, it has become the coffee that epitomizes Peet's: flavorful, deeply roasted, and unsurpassingly satisfying. But for us, Major D's is just like a relationship with an old friend. We'll always remember it as the story of a customer's passion, an expert's palate, and a shared love of coffee.
Brew it in a French press for a perfect cup, or enjoy it as an exquisite espresso.
Major Dickason's is truly the most consistently wonderful among the widely-available coffees in the US. Peet's understands the difference between "fully roasted" vs. "burned"--a distinction that Starbucks clearly does not appreciate--and this blend illustrates that perfectly. Major Dickason's can even compete with specialty single-bean ristrettos, and outshines all other blends I've tried. Lush crema on top of the french press, intense full body but never bitter, delicious brewed cold or hot--it's an all-around winner.
Major Dickason's was first given to me as a gift from my brother-in-law who lived in San Francisco. We found it to be the best ever! We cannot drink any other coffee! Better than Starbucks! Cosco in our area does not carry it! We still look forward to the Peet's coffee as a gift!
A everyday morning ritual at my house , I have a insta- hot water tap and I brew my Peet's every morning in the french press . I have tried everything and my Major Dickason's Blend simply can't be beat. That chocolaty head on it as it comes out of the press and a touch of Half n Half is coffee Perfection.
My wife and I had been enjoying Peet's coffees purchased at the Wegman's supermarket in Johnson City, NY, for a few years when I finally read the package and saw the reference to Berkeley in the '60s. This triggered memories since, in 1966, I was a grad student at Cal Berkeley and renting the rear half of a house on Oxford street. We began to smell roasting coffee every few days, so sought the source and found Mr. Peet's newly-opened store, two or three blocks away. I remember walking in just as the roaster was being emptied and the operator (Himself, I’m sure) remarked that he liked to give it a good hard roast. He certainly did! Thereafter, we drank great coffee - until graduation and employment took us to across the country. Thanks to Peet's expansion and distribution, we are doing so again, mostly Major Dickason's. Thank You!
Looking for a special occasion coffee blend today and ran across major Dickason's blend. Have never even considered Peet's coffee before as the Seattle brands are more prevalent where i shop. Today I found inventory low of those other brands so chose Peet's to give a try. I am very surprised! Makes one mighty fine iced mocha. Rich and full of flavor, it blends well with Almond Milk and unsweetened chocolate (I am diabetic). As of this moment I am a Peet's fan.
I just tried Pee'ts Coffee AND Major Dickason's blend for the first time. I was worried that I would not get a great expresso with crema, but I did! Thank you!
For years, I had been trying to find the perfect coffee. A coffee that is rich and smooth. A coffee with a mild acidity but with a bright quality that I enjoy. And I finally did it! Major Dickason's is it! Whatever types of coffee are blended to make unique brew is what I have always been looking for! I love you Major D!
Major Dickason's Blend is like a perfectly orchestrated symphony. Five coffees, each with very different flavors on their own, combine for the smoothest cup with sneaky peaks of flavor! It's so easy and rewarding to drink!
