Coffee Story

In the words of Peet's Roastmaster Emeritus Jim Reynolds, "Coffee can be a powerful means of doing good." That sentiment is the soul of our newest blend, a unique combination of coffees from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia that supports the small-scale farmers of East Africa.

Long before we started buying their beans, our partnership with the non-profit Technoserve was giving these farmers hands-on training to grow higher quality coffee that commanded more favorable prices. They already had the terroir; our assistance helped them cultivate the techniques to produce coffee of Peet's caliber. With top-grade beans to sell, their incomes are rising, improving their lives as well as their communities.

They also gave this fully sustainable, distinctly African blend its name, Uzuri — which is Swahili for beautiful or excellent. We don't think there's any better way to describe coffee with such a flowery fragrance, smooth, malty-sweet flavors, and dark berry undercurrents. Especially when it's also a powerful means of doing good. Uzuri...beautiful.

Please keep stocking this blend. It combines smokiness, smoothness, brightness and intensity with less acidity than other coffees of this intensity. Another plus is that it seems slightly less caffeinated than others! Loved your video. The beauty of the people making the product is reflected in the product itself.

Just got a bag of this Uzuri in Hong Kong the other day - wow. This is excellent coffee. It's making me curious about the Lake Kivu. I can't say anything about that obviously but can certainly recommend Uzuri. East African coffee is pretty amazing if you like a rich full cup.

This is the only blend that has ever been able to divert me from my beloved Peet's French Roast. Now I alternate between the two and enjoy both black, no sugar. Heaven!

I just picked up this blend from a local market this week on a whim and I think I found my new favorite coffee. Very smooth, sweet, with a great aroma that''s extremely inviting, and has a pleasant aftertaste that is enjoyable. I'm loving every single cup without adding anything additional to it. A definite winner!

It's great as is, no sugar or cream needed. The texture is smooth and leaves a lasting impression.

With the buzz of the introduction of this blend both in store and on the web, this blend did not disappoint. The in-store tasting and the consequent in-home brewing with french press method (press pot), yielded a smooth, yet lively, very light citrus beginning with a berry finish. I found myself making that second cup rather quickly! The taste lingers very lightly in the mouth. I truly believe this coffee will be a hit and suit a wide range of coffee lovers tastes.

I was first draw to this coffee through the stories told by the growers, but I was quickly enchanted by this coffees velvety flavor! While I found this coffee to have some classic African charicteristis (a dark berry undertone) I was surprised by it rich complexity. As a fan of Indo-Pacifics, as well as multi region blends like Major Dickason''s I was delighted by this African coffee
