About this coffee

Coffee story

In the words of Peet's Roastmaster Emeritus Jim Reynolds, "Coffee can be a powerful means of doing good." That sentiment is the soul of this blend, a unique combination of exquisite coffees from smallholder farmers throughout Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.

Our partnership with the non-profit TechnoServe gives many of these farmers hands-on training to increase the yield and quality of their coffee crops so they can command more favorable prices. Over the years it’s been rewarding and inspiring to see many farmers, through their cooperatives, build schools, install power lines, and provide their communities access to affordable food, among other projects.

It was the farmers who gave this truly sustainable, distinctly African blend its name, Uzuri—which is Swahili for beautiful or excellent. We don't think there's any better way to describe coffee with such a flowery fragrance, smooth, malty-sweet flavors, and dark berry juiciness. Uzuri...beautiful.

We really enjoyed the 2014 Holiday Blend, and Kathy in Customer Service suggested Uzuri African as something close that we could enjoy all year. She was certainly right about that! It has now replaced Colombia as our favorite.

We love this coffee and when we see it on the shelves we buy all the stock because we don't know if it will be restocked. Now that I Know we can order online I might not be so greedy at the stores as they generally don't put more than 4 to 6 12oz bags up.

My family is IN the coffee business and I have a pretty good idea of what I like and what to look for and I will say that Uzuri is one of my favs.
I like a full bodied coffee with a smooth finish. This makes a cup from beginning to end that really makes the effort to make it worthwhile.
I have been a Peet's fan a long time and wear their shirt and make the family squeal but when you find a winner you gotta flaunt it. :)

I bought my second pound of Arabian Mocha Sanani yesterday, and the cashier offer me a complimentary cup of coffee. Today I ask him what kind of coffee he gave me the day before cause it taste really good to my taste bud. When he said its a "Uzuri African Blend." This coffee really impress me that makes me comeback to the store and have to asked the cashier what it is. It will be a part of my personal coffee in the kitchen together with the Arabian Mocha Sanani. Thanks Peets!
