About this coffee

Coffee Story

Peet's Roastmaster Emeritus Jim Reynolds has perhaps the most discerning palate in the entire specialty coffee industry. When we asked him to create a special blend of the most exquisite coffees imaginable, to his own exacting specifications, he selected these very rare lots known for both their consistency and complexity.

This transcendent blend of full-bodied coffees we call JR Reserve is as tasteful and multi-faceted as the man himself. Pristine notes of spice and chocolate unveil themselves, layer by layer, until merging into a prolonged and satisfying finish.

JR Reserve is only available in limited quantities — 1/2-lb. bags — and roasted to order just once a week, exclusively on Wednesdays. We do this to make sure it's as fresh as possible when you receive it. Orders must be placed on or before each Tuesday, and are shipped within 24 hours of roasting. You also have the option of choosing a future Wednesday shipment at checkout.

Extremely smooth, subtle blend with nice subtle aroma. A bit too subtle for my taste; I prefer more spice and more pronounced flavors. I did try both drip and press methods; press was better.

Major D is still my all-time favorite coffee, and I'm a Peetnik who subscribes to the fresh whole beans. I loved this year's Anniversary blend, just ordered my second pound. While in theLexington store, I picked up a half-pound of the JR blend- not even noticing the price. It's worth it. You get what you pay for- even better than the Anniversary Blend, the only coffee I've tasted that can be spoken in the same breath as the Major D. Don't waste any of this by making too much- it's worth it for special occasions- or dinner, when you're drinking for pleasure and not just trying to wake up for the day.

I hadn't tried it before so I took a chance. JR Reserve ranks right up there with other favorites like Sulawesi-Kalosi and New Guinea Highlands (but trails India Peaberry and Jamaican Blue), but then I enjoy each for their own uniqueness. I've always preferred a more full bodied brew but this is a departure for me in being more "bright" than I would normally pick. So I took Cliff Sowers advice, but even though the view was nice and the deer seemed pleasant, Dorothy said no matter how good a press-pot I make that if she had to spend one more weekend in that damn cabin she was going to seriously hurt someone.

Try to picture yourself on the porch of an older rustic cabin. Elevation 8400 ft. Late Fall and the sun just coming up....... Add JR Reserve Blend, ala press pot. Your favorite person (Dorothy), and a few deer. That's pure gold for me. Try It !!!!!

This is one of my all time favorite reserves. This coffee has an intoxicating complexity and delights the senses with rich spicy notes. Its full body sets it apart from other reserve coffees. These characteristics make JR Reserve the perfect coffee for those with discerning taste.

I had been looking for the perfect coffee for my boyfriend's unique taste. He likes the bright acidity of Latin American coffees but he enjoys a rich, smooth, lingering quality of coffees from the Indo-Pacific region...after some time...I finally found the perfect coffee in this coffee. He LOVES it! This awesome coffee blend with bittersweet and spicy notes is a a Master Roasters vision realized. You want to drink this coffee...seriously yummy!

I love the story behind this coffee - small, rare lots of coffee picked specifically by THE Jim Reynolds. Talk about attention to detail & dedication to quality. It''s truly a coffee to savor. It''s complex, definitely get the hints of bittersweet chocolate & spice. The acidity is balanced by the body of the coffee.

JR Reserve Blend This offering says hello with rich sweet aroma. It just gets better when you the deep complex flavor kicks in. Full body and winy acidity frame notes of chocolate, berries and citrus. Some earth and nutty tones appear too. The finish is clean, and, all told, this makes an exceptional well-rounded cup.

JR Reserve Blend is woodsy and earthy with medium to bright acidity. Very full bodied, with a lingering spicy aftertaste. A rich coffee with a hint of chocolate.
