About this coffee

Coffee Story

Just saying the name “Bella Carmona” evokes feelings of inspiration, beauty, and peace. Imagine drinking it…from Peet’s.

We are proud to introduce our first coffee from the famed Bella Carmona Estate in Antigua, Guatemala. The colonial town of Antigua is nestled at the base of three volcanoes which provide nutrients and minerals that enrich the soil, including the active Volcán de Fuego which periodically dusts the land with volcanic ash. Bella Carmona coffees are grown at a prime altitude of 5,200 to 6,000 feet above sea level. If you take the opportunity to visit Antigua (and tour the Bella Carmona Estate!), you will be greeted with hot days and cool evenings. A bit warm for volcano hiking, but ideal conditions for cherries to develop sweet rich flavors as they slowly mature from green to polished red.

The Bella Carmona Estate and Bella Vista Mill are owned and operated by the Zelaya family which has been growing and milling coffees with a focus on sustainable practices since 1908. As fourth generation coffee producers, they have it down to a perfection! Their trophy case would make any Type-A jealous.

Fans of Peet’s Guatemala San Sebastian will recognize this quality, but with the most delicate of differences. Bella Carmona is located just across the valley from San Sebastian, and we might have to give it the edge for aroma—vanilla bean, milk chocolate—while San Sebastian is unmatched for clarity and acidity. Which is best? It’s a delicious dilemma.
