Coffee Story

Peet's Roastmaster Emeritus Jim Reynolds has perhaps the most discerning palate in the entire specialty coffee industry. When we asked him to create a special blend of the most exquisite coffees imaginable, to his own exacting specifications, he selected these very rare lots known for both their consistency and complexity.

This transcendent blend of full-bodied coffees we call JR Reserve is as tasteful and multi-faceted as the man himself. Pristine notes of spice and chocolate unveil themselves, layer by layer, until merging into a prolonged and satisfying finish.

JR Reserve is only available in limited quantities — 1/2-lb. bags — and roasted to order just once a week, exclusively on Wednesdays. We do this to make sure it's as fresh as possible when you receive it. Orders must be placed on or before each Tuesday, and are shipped within 24 hours of roasting. You also have the option of choosing a future Wednesday shipment at checkout.

Worth spending the extra beans.

I use Hario Hand Grinder daily to make few cups of coffee. I enjoy every second I am grinding this bean, the aroma is so good.

Bean size is bigger than Panama Geisha, Blue Mountain, look like Columbia bean to me.
Color of bean looks darker too. I think it is due to different technique of roasting for each bean used.

Cupping note varied, smokey, spicy and strong body.

Time: It is best served in the morning.

Yes, this is definitely a great coffee. However, this brand unbelievable expensive making this coffee unavailable for most people who have a regular middle class (or below) income, and that is not fair.

Extremely smooth, subtle blend with nice subtle aroma. A bit too subtle for my taste; I prefer more spice and more pronounced flavors. I did try both drip and press methods; press was better.

Major D is still my all-time favorite coffee, and I'm a Peetnik who subscribes to the fresh whole beans. I loved this year's Anniversary blend, just ordered my second pound. While in theLexington store, I picked up a half-pound of the JR blend- not even noticing the price. It's worth it. You get what you pay for- even better than the Anniversary Blend, the only coffee I've tasted that can be spoken in the same breath as the Major D. Don't waste any of this by making too much- it's worth it for special occasions- or dinner, when you're drinking for pleasure and not just trying to wake up for the day.
