Coffee Story

A loyal customer of our original Berkeley store, retired army officer Key Dickason brought the idea for our most beloved blend to Mr. Peet in 1969. Intrigued, our founder worked with the local gourmand and coffee aficionado to refine it. They sampled countless combinations before arriving at what is now our all-time bestseller. The result was so good, Alfred Peet decided naming it after his friend wasn't enough — Dickason's rich, complex blend also deserved a promotion from sergeant to major.

Major Dickason's combines the best origin coffees from the world's premier growing regions, each imparting its distinctive regional characteristics while still effortlessly rounding into a smooth, balanced cup. Over the years, it has become the coffee that epitomizes Peet's: flavorful, deeply roasted, and unsurpassingly satisfying. But for us, Major D's is just like a relationship with an old friend. We'll always remember it as the story of a customer's passion, an expert's palate, and a shared love of coffee.

Brewing Tips

Brew it in a French press for a perfect cup, or enjoy it as an exquisite espresso.

I like Major Dickasons and drink it as a change of pace to my favorite standby, Mocha Java.

I would have to comment that the current version of Major Dickason's is nothing like the original version...The original version had a high percentage of Jamaica Blue Mountain (I seem to remember Mr. Pete saying that it was 33% JBM). Nowadays, the Jamaican coffee is far to precious and rare to include in a blend sold year round for a reasonable price.

I have been drinking Peet's since 1972 when I lived in Berkeley. When I moved out of town in the mid "70s, I became one of Peets first mail order customers. At that time, they would send the cofee without payment and wait for your check before sending your next order. If you didn't pay, they wouldn't send your next order. I took out my first credit card and set up a standing order just to make sure that I didn't forget to pay in time to get my next order.

I traveled to Berkley CA area to visit with family. I woke up each and every morning and walked to the local Peets Coffee store for a delicious cup of coffee something I can't do in my home town. I purchased two pounds of coffee to take home with me. The day I was to travel home I made a quick stop at an outlet mall just to come out and find the windows broken and my luggage and my Peets Coffee stolen. I told the Police officer I was upset about camera and other stolen items but I was mad as hell about my missing 2 lbs of Peets coffee. Thanks for making such delicious coffee.

I love cofee - good coffee , that is. Picked up a bag of Dickason's last Christmas on a whim and I've been hooked ever since. Have gifted it to my children and sister/brother-in- law; they''re crazy about it, too. I'm a long time fan of African coffees and the Uzuri doesn't disappoint either. Choosing between the two blends isn't possible. Both blends are robust without being too acidic. I drink my coffee black and again, both blends are incredibly smooth and satisfying. I''ll be a Peet's girl for life!

While I love all of Peet's coffees, this is usually my go-to when ordering. It is luscious and rich, and I never tire of it. I give this coffee as a gift frequently, and even have it shipped to my friends in Sydney, Australia, who are very choosy about their coffee (and make it on huge professional espresso machines in their home and office).

I have been drinking Peets since 1999 back in high school. I was introduced to Major Dickensons after walking into a Peets telling them of the strong coffee I had on my trip to Europe. When the barista brewed me Major Dickensons I was begging for more it was that good. I love the full body and taste of the coffee. Its not so bitter that its going to leave that coffee aftertaste. If you add milk to your coffee you are ruining it so please don't add anything except cinnamon to bring out other flavors. Major D''s is the "go to" brand and whenever I fly I make sure to bring my portable French Press with Major D's blend and have the flight attendant fill it up with hot water. When I'm at a hotel without a Peet's I still get my fix but as other Peetnicks like myself use Major D's as a benchmark. Hey its not Peets quality I said to a barista at this funky coffee shop. He did not know what I

This is the only coffee I drink, and I drink it black and strong. I've tried all the "cheapie" brands, but none of them taste very good and they make me sick as well. I'll never go back to them!

For years, I had been trying to find the perfect coffee. A coffee that is rich and smooth. A coffee with a mild acidity but with a bright quality that I enjoy. And I finally did it! Major Dickason's is it! Whatever types of coffee are blended to make unique brew is what I have always been looking for! I love you Major D!

Major Dickason's Blend is like a perfectly orchestrated symphony. Five coffees, each with very different flavors on their own, combine for the smoothest cup with sneaky peaks of flavor! It's so easy and rewarding to drink!
