Tea Story

This most renowned of all Chinese green teas comes from the mountains near Hangzhou, in Zhejiang province. Legend has it that a benevolent dragon resides in a local well where this tea was created several centuries ago. It’s still made the same way it was then: the leaves are hand-rolled in a hot, steep-sided pan. This “pan-firing” method requires great care to match the temperatures with the size and tenderness of the leaves. When done with skill, and when using leaves from the Spring growth, the result is a rich and nutty-tasting green tea, with natural hints of fresh corn and vegetables.

Brewing Tips

Start with a preheated cup or teapot.
Measure 1 spoonful (3g) of tea for each cup of water.
Bring the water to boil; let it cool for 2 minutes (180° F) before steeping tea for 4 minutes.
Strain leaves while pouring.

I was going to say this is a journeyman's green tea - and it most certainly is emblematic - but it goes beyond that. When properly brewed, LCDW is a green gift; bright and welcoming aroma, warm notes of green tea, and some great little surprises in flavor going down. Definitely one of the best greens around, and w/out trying to sound haughty, I do know my greens (staple of my daily existence since I stopped drinking coffee 15 years ago). Have had friends ask to use LCDW in the occasional Japanese Tea Ceremony, so you gotta know it retains an excellent reputation, and I must say it's a wonderful foil to just about any dessert that wants tea along - heavy or delicate. I used to live in the very area that produces the best tea in the world! Every year, around April, time to pick the best tea leaves, tender and juicy, full of big promises. Skilled workers would set up huge woks alongside a mud road and hand roasting these green leaves into wonderful Long Jing Cha (Dragonwell tea). Unlike most of the green teas, it is light, with a taste of sweet corn. and full of aromas! I call them smells of the spring. Thanks to a kind friend who mentioned Peet's Coffee & Tea. It sure brought me home, and the home coming is priceless. for every thing else, there is visa/master card. :-)

This Peet's tea is a delight in flavor and aroma.It has a very bright impact to the taste buds. The smell in the canister reminds me of our barn full of fresh grass hay. I throw a pinch loose in my cup so I have the treat of chewing the leaves when the tea is gone. By far one of my favorite all time teas.

This tea has been such a constant companion to me. I've brewed it in so many ways, I feel like I know it inside and out, like an old friend. Hot water brings out that pan-fire toastiness, cooler water more of the vegetal buttery quality. Longer steep, shorter steep - doesn't matter. I love to just toss the leaves in a clear glass and let them float around, gradually unfolding. Sometimes it has a very grounding, mineral taste, like a really great spring water, and leaves you feeling soothed and nourished. Mmm...

The name of this China green tea means Dragon Well, which comes from the legend of the kindly dragon that lives in a local well. In the centuries old tradition, the leaves are hand rolled in a steep-sided pan. This tea is smooth and buttery, with a fresh, green taste and hints of nuts and grains. When I want a green tea that is a bit different, I have a cup of Lung Ching Dragonwell.

Incredibly full bodied for a green tea, Lung Ching Dragonwell delivers a powerfully rich emerald cup time after time. Earthy and herbaceous mellowness is brought to a point by a subtle astringency. Each sip concludes with a wonderful almondy sweet, dry finish. It is a truly luxurious tea that can be enjoyed every day. I fondly call it "Yum" Ching.
