About this tea

Tea Story

Horse and camel caravans would spend sixteen months making the roundtrip journey to Eastern China, arriving in the Russian capital laden with chests of tea. The leaves aged a bit along the way; Russian Caravan’s quality probably improved significantly with the opening of the Trans-Siberian railroad. Peet's take on this historic favorite is a Signature blend of China black teas for a smooth and smoky cup.

Brewing Tips

Start with a preheated cup or teapot.
Measure 1 spoonful (3g) of tea for each cup of water.
Bring the water to a rolling boil; steep tea for 5 minutes.
Strain leaves while pouring.

Russian Caravan is my all time favorite tea! I discovered it over 11 years ago at, of course, Peet's. Over time I wanted a little more of the smokey taste. Now I blend Peet's Russian Caravan with their Lapsang Souchong for an amazing, smokey, satisfying morning brew. I use a little stevia and a little warm milk to round out my cup of tea. I use a tablespoon of Russian Caravan and a tablespoon of Lapsang in a medium sized teapot. Steep for 3 minutes. I've been drinking this blend for over 10 years and I look forward to starting every day with a steaming cup.

This tea is great. It has a particular flavor I imagine some will not enjoy. It smells like band-aid adhesive which oddly enough makes for a strong, unique flavor, a flavor I love. I recommend it unsweetened, over ice.

My introduction to Peets happened in 1993 as a new student at The Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Honestly, I visited the Walnut and Vine store every day for a month! The coffee is great, but I was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent tea collection. Probably my favorite is Russian Caravan. This is a delicious, smokey, shake-you-awake in the morning tea, although good at any time. In keeping with its tradition, I am now ordering some for delivery to me here in Japan.

Evidently there are those who do not like this rich, smoky tea but let me tell you, tea lovers, I am not one of them. My wife and I started drinking RC at a local restaurant, ran across a great tea shop in San Francisco and bought a pound of their blend, then my lovely wife bought a tin of Peet's Russian Caravan. We've been drinking it ever since. Granted it's not for everyone. This is a strong, aromatic kick-in-the-butt, good-morning-world kind of tea that gets you out the door with a smile on your face and a song in your heart. It's also great for a mid-afternoon lift. I do love other teas, greens or blacks, but this is my absolute favorite that I look forward to every morning.

I started touring Peet's tea menu a few months back. Russian Caravan is definitely one of my favorites! This tea is very unique in it's flavor and has a very nice aroma! I HIGHLY recommend this tea to black tea lovers!

A friend brought me a tin of Peet's Russian Caravan tea, and I must say it is simply the BEST Rusian Caravan blend I have had.

Grasp your cup with two hands and breathe deeply the brilliantly woodsy aroma of pine-oak forests and glowing embers. Indulge in the strong smoky scent. The tea itself drinks with only a gentle backdrop of smokiness. The rich liquor sits full in the mouth and is bold in flavor. It finishes clean, almost as if it vanishes from the tongue.

im a big fan of dark and smokey, an equal mix of a well pulled shot of garuda over 2oz. of russian gives the shot an extremely dark and woodsy flavor. theres little to no astringency, just pure earthy smoothness and is now one of my favorite tea/coffee combinations.

When I first joined the Peet's corps, I was introduced to the world of smokey teas. My Assistant Manager, Steve, pulled me asided and brewed up Lapsang Souchong, Russian Caravan and Scottish Breakfast. He had me close my eyes and imagine camping in the woods. The scene included damp cool weather, a raging fire and a hearty breakfast with steaming cup of one of those teas. I picked up Russian Caravan and have loved it ever since. Smokey, sweet, smooth and comforting. This cup of tea takes me back and gives me a big Peet's hug!

The Russian Caravan has a smoky and woody aroma. At first I thought the tea would taste very bold and astringent based on the scent of the steeping tea. The initial taste of the tea supports its strong aroma, but the flavor is very smooth and it does not linger on the palate; it has a nice smooth aftertaste. Adding a little sugar to the tea mellows out the flavor, leaving a light woody taste. Adding cream imparts a smooth texture but hides a lot of the tea

Need to feel like royalty tonight? Well, just sit down and relax in your favorite chair while enjoying this wonderfully stress reducing potion. The Russian Czars knew how to appreciate the finer things in life and this blend of Chinese black teas was one of their favorites. It is well rounded in flavor and mouth feel. The added light smokiness pleasantly accentuates the woody tones of the teas. If you like milk with your tea, sorry, but it will totally mask the subtle accents of this tea. But, add ice and a hint of lemon and you will enjoy a refreshing and tasty brew.<br>Now, if I could only get some Russian Beluga caviar to make this a perfect evening!

Smokey, baked...reminds me of campfire ash...still easy to drink and enjoyable.
