India Peaberry
Past Online Exclusive Special Offering
A tiny production. A rare bean. An exotic origin. A model estate. With warm spice and caramel notes, India Peaberry is our favorite coffee in all of India.
Elkhill Estate is located in Southern India, near Mysore, and is a longtime partner of Peet’s. The coffee grows under natural shade trees – Giant Teak, Indian Rosewood and Cluster Figs - woven with vines of pepper. Elkhill is Utz Certified, an independent worldwide certification program that means the coffee production meets strict environmental, social, and economic criteria.
All manner of wildlife co-habit the estate, flourishing in this forest environment alongside the coffee, including their elephant mascot, often seen wandering around Elkhill. This photo was taken the day he spent below the office contentedly eating Jackfruit and blocking the entrance to the workshop.

This Peet’s Online Exclusive is an extraordinary peaberry. Peaberries are an anomaly - they occur at a rate of about 5% in all coffee crops, when just one little oval bean develops within the coffee cherry, rather than the normal two. Peaberries tend to be more concentrated in flavor. But India Peaberry is ‘Extra Bold’: these peaberries are sorted from the main crop, and then sorted a second time by size. The largest are put aside for Peet’s as this ‘Extra Bold’ grade that we are offering. This cup is particularly rich and sweet, with warm, baking spice notes (think ginger and cinnamon), a caramel touch, balanced with hints of dark woods and the bold zing of a top quality peaberry.
