Ethiopian coffee can be described as medium-bodied and full of flavor. From good lots, you get a tangy, pungent brew with a lingering floral-almost perfumy-aroma. The floral aromatic characteristics are easily noted in the freshly ground coffee as well. We favor the coffee from Yirga Chefé in Sidamo state, east of Lake Abaya. Ethiopia is still recovering from years of internal strife that had a profound negative effect on its ability to produce quality coffee. Fortunately in recent years, we have seen improvements in quality, and we hope for a full return to the time when Ethiopia produced some of the world's finest coffee. Coffee preference is always very subjective, but many in the coffee trade consider Ethiopian coffee the best in the world. In the finest lots it's still possible to discern those flavor qualities that earned the high praise.
