Created by Alfred Peet and long a favorite of Peet's baristas, Garuda is one of our first blends. It originates in the islands of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, where each single-origin coffee develops distinctly different flavor characteristics due to the unique production and processing methods across the archipelago. Hand-pulped village coffees impart a rustic earthiness and nutty flavors; fully washed beans lend a lively spark; the blend exudes syrupy consistency and is infused with tropical airs.
We don't know if the mythical bird that is the namesake of the blend visited each of the coffee islands, from Sumatra to Sulawesi to Java to Timor, and on to Irian Jaya/Papua New Guinea and the spice islands of the Moluccas, but we craft Garuda to reflect their diversity. We think it makes an excellent espresso, and we know it makes a big, satisfying cup.

I did an earlier review and think I forgot to include my name & a rating...5 Star...An amazing pearing of perfect roast/bean...I was a barista in Ocean Shores when I discovered Garuda at the Peet's in Seattle...I think Queen Anne, (not Rose Hill, as I previously stated). I did the review a few hours ago... Keep up the good matches!
Stopped in a little coffee shop in early 2000s in Seattle on the hill...Rose Hill or something...ordered a simple espresso...couldnt believe the taste, body and smoothness without being "flat". I asked the barista what beans they used...Hooked. I was a barista in Ocean Shores at the beach...Love Garuda
Consistently complex taste with great aroma. I do imagine islands. (Never been to Indonesia, but close my eyes, sip, and I'm somewhere like that. I think.) And it will make a strong cup even using my old drip YouBrew. I get a few pounds by mail every few weeks and it's always fresh, sometimes less than 48 hours out of the roaster.
My favorite coffee! Nutty, smooth, full bodied. Wonderful for both brewed coffee and espresso shots.
Garuda Blend is what got me hooked on Peet's - I never was much of a coffee drinker until I experienced the lush smoothness and silky delight that is Garuda. Truly one the finest, thank you Peet's.
