About this tea

Tea Story

At the northern tip of the Huang Shan mountain range, Keemun teas grow amid dense forests and mountain springs. Lion Mountain Keemun is a rigorously graded tea, containing only the smallest Orange Pekoe leaves for a highly uniform leaf – deep green to almost black, with little visible tip. The tea has a complex aroma, with perfume-like orchid and smoky incense notes, while the cup is rich and concentrated with sweet, plum-like flavors. Keemuns are the best keeping of all black teas, mellowing with age but keeping their sweet and aromatic character.

Brewing Tips

Start with a preheated cup or teapot.
Measure 1 spoonful (3g) of tea for each cup of water.
Bring the water to a rolling boil; steep tea for 5 minutes.
Strain leaves while pouring.

Sitting down at my desk early this morning I took a moment to assess my current mood. Mellow with hints of meloncholy. Next I needed to contemplate the perfect cup of tea to suit my mood. One that wouldn't ruffle my mellow but could uplift and shake away the meloncholy. I happily pulled Lion Mountain Keemun from the cupboard. Even the name makes me smile.

The deep burnt amber color of the liquor is just as warming to the spirit as the temperature of the water is to the cup. Its complex flavor and full body titilated my senses with fruit and honey notes. The mouth feel wrapped my pallet like a favorite blanket on a cold night.

I have been drinking tea for 30 years and Lion Mountain Keemum is by far my favorite black tea hands down. It's unique natural flavor, earthiness and aroma is just heavenly and I can't get enough. I've noticed that this tea has become more limited and harder to find in the stores so I grab it online every chance I get. Enjoy

This tea has been my morning cup for some years. It is full bodied slightly smokey - intense. A great way to wake up in the morning! There is nothing like it. Devastated it will now only be available seasonally.

Lion Mountain Keemun is consistenly one of the best reasonably priced Keemuns I've tasted. This is my every day favourite tea, with a rich red liquor, and a mellow but not at all bland full bodied cup of tea. Just a subtle hint of smokiness. And if you buy enough that it stays around a while, it just gets better. Though somehow that isn't working out too well for me, since I'm down to the end of the tin again. :)

Not only do I enjoy tea several times a day, but I also give lectures on the tea trade and tea as a global commodity. I enjoy trying different brands and different varieties of tea, though almost invariably I drink black tea, with a little milk. Recently I was visiting friends in Berkeley who, knowing my liking for tea, had bought some Peet's Lion Mountain Keemun for my visit. It is superb. The flavour is quite intense and full-bodied without being bitter or acidic; in my opinion it is enhanced by the addition of a drop of milk, but if you prefer your tea straight, then perhaps make this one using slightly less leaf. Never add sugar. The aroma, both of the leaf tea in the canister and of the brewed tea, is wonderful, quite unlike Indian or African teas (though I am a big fan of Assam and Ceylon teas). One can pay a fortune for premium Keemun teas, and while this may be one of the more expensive of

Due to a digestive disorder, I was unable to drink black teas for 5 years. I can drink them now again in small amounts. I found a can of Lion Mountain Keemun from Peet's that must be 5 years old. I made some this morning and almost wept at how alluringly delicious it still was after all this time! Sweet, spice, smoke. Nothing else on earth like this tea!

This is one of the first teas I fell in love with and I still love it. Where most black teas are brisk, this one is mellow; where most mellow teas are delicate, this one is rich. It’s like a rebel among Chinese black teas.

Lion Mountain Keemum This tea features good body and nice crispness with an easy finish. There are plentiful honey notes and a rich earthiness. It tastes pleasantly mulchy, and is reminiscent of the aromas of autumn. This tea makes this Kansas girl miss the changing of the seasons.

Lion Mountain Keemun reminds me of a weekend camping trip. Smoky yet very sweet, smooth and syrupy.

Lion Mountain is an interesting black tea because of its smooth and soothing flavor. Its astringency is very well-balanced. Recommended to those who dislike the bitterness sometimes associated with certain black teas.
