At the northern tip of the Huang Shan mountain range, Keemun teas grow amid dense forests and mountain springs. Lion Mountain Keemun is a rigorously graded tea, containing only the smallest Orange Pekoe leaves for a highly uniform leaf – deep green to almost black, with little visible tip. The tea has a complex aroma, with perfume-like orchid and smoky incense notes, while the cup is rich and concentrated with sweet, plum-like flavors. Keemuns are the best keeping of all black teas, mellowing with age but keeping their sweet and aromatic character.
Start with a preheated cup or teapot.
Measure 1 spoonful (3g) of tea for each cup of water.
Bring the water to a rolling boil; steep tea for 5 minutes.
Strain leaves while pouring.
Lion Mountain Keemun is consistently one of the best reasonably priced Keemuns I've tasted. This is my every day favourite tea, with a rich red liquor, and a mellow but not at all bland full bodied cup of tea. Just a subtle hint of smokiness.
When I saw that the 1/4 lb. tin of Lion Mountain Keemun was now showing as "Limited Edition" on the site, I knew it was time to stop buying by the tin, and get a pound of it. I would NOT like to be without. This really is a superb tea, and I hope there are no permanent problems with Peet's being able to get it. And, one of the beauties of a good Keemun like this, is that it ages really, really well. So don't be shy, get a pound of it!
