About this tea

Tea Story

A unique and beautiful tea from Fujian province, China, only the youngest leaves are plucked. Three leaves are rolled together into a spherical “pearl” and then wrapped in silk mesh and dried by fire to set the form. Each pearl is streaked with the pale white down of the young buds. Scenting the pearls twice with fresh jasmine flowers gives the finished tea its final character.

Brewing Tips

Start with a preheated cup or teapot.
Measure 1 spoonful (3g) of tea for each cup of water.
Bring the water to boil; let it cool for 1 minute (195° F) before steeping tea for 5 minutes.
Strain leaves while pouring. Or brew in a glass mug so you can watch and savor at the same time.

HEAVENLY! I've grown up in a family that, for generation, only drink the highest-quality Oolong tea brought to us to select from tea growers in Taiwan, where, for many, the only place on earth to find the best Oolong tea ( it's like you can only find genuine Blue Mountain coffee in Jamaca!) As a picky and spoiled tea drinker since early childhood, I've enjoyed varied type of tea on top of the best Oolong. But jasmine tea? Never! Well... Until this Jasmine Downy Pearl from Peet's! Now it's the only tea I would gift someone beside fine Oolong from Taiwan. When my son, who does not like coffee and rarely drinks tea, asked for tea to bring to his college, this Peet's JDP was among what I got for him. And he loves it! It blew me away when he prefers it over all the energy drinks. Oh the AROMA, the BEAUTY, you will want to count your blessings when you drink it!

An exceptional tea, my favorite. It has a wonderful aroma and is soothing and delicious. An extraordinary treat. I love the way the buds blossom and expand to 3 times their original size. It only takes a few buds per cup. A treat and no sweetener required.

Tried this tea for the first time the other day. Very nice aroma and taste, and I didn't even add any sugar....

I got this as a gift for xmas and did not get to try it until this past weekend. I looove it! I have always thought a pure jasmine tea was too strong/tart, but this has a perfect blend of oolong and jasmine. Its my aromatherapy in a cup!

Exquisitely aromatic. This is the consummate Jasmine tea of all times. The "birth" of the tea is a delightful ritual to behold. The pearls fluff and open in their underwater garden. Use a clear glass pot to best appreciate this ritual. The flavor is soothingly smooth and heady, yet, not too perfumy. Simply, the best I have ever tasted whether brewed by the pot or by the mug!

I've received a tin of these pearls for Christmas and since it said "rare teas" I thought to save them as long as possible and displayed them in my china cabinet. the other night I had guests and ran out of tea so I decided to try the pearls... they were a hit! the sweet smell of the jasmine is not too empowering when combined with the oolong. Now every so often I make myself a cup of tea and savor every drop... its like aromatherapy.

This tea is a fine and precious example of a high quality hand processed tea. It is very appropriately called "rare", and upon opening its lid you will see and smell why. Each tiny pearl holds the rich fragrance of a delicate jasmine blossom, and this tea''s scent and flavor blooms as it steeps. The green tea flavor is delicate yet rich reminding me of a white tea. I love the sweetness of the jasmine! Each cup is like a burst of Spring and Summer combine!

This is my absolute favorite jasmine tea. It is very delicate and flavorful. It is the finest tasting jasmine tea I have ever tasted. Some jasmine teas taste like one is ingesting a fragrant bar of soap, but Jasmine Downy Pearls is light and delicately sweet tasting, not overpowering at all. It is literally like drinking a bouquet of flowers. I recommend this tea highly to all our customers

Exquisitely subtle, best describes this rare tea. I remember the first cup of Jasmine Downy Pearls I had many years ago and I referred to it as "nectar of the gods". This still rings true today! The jasmine scented aroma doesn't overwhelm my senses, it invites me into the cup where I find a slightly sweet, gently perfumed flavor. This is a tea to be sipped and savored. I hope you enjoy it as much I do!
