How It Tastes

Rich, smooth, and complex, with a very full body and multi-layered character.

A loyal customer of our original Berkeley store, retired army officer Key Dickason brought the idea for our most beloved blend to Mr. Peet in 1969. Intrigued, our founder worked with the local gourmand and coffee aficionado to refine it. They sampled countless combinations before arriving at what is now our all-time bestseller. The result was so good, Alfred Peet decided naming it after his friend wasn't enough — Dickason's rich, complex blend also deserved a promotion from sergeant to major. Major Dickason's combines the best origin coffees from the world's premier growing regions, each imparting its distinctive regional characteristics while still effortlessly rounding into a smooth, balanced cup.

Worth Noting

Over the years, Major Dickason's has become the coffee that epitomizes Peet's: flavorful, deeply roasted, and unsurpassingly satisfying. But for us, Major D's is just like a relationship with an old friend. We'll always remember it as the story of a customer's passion, an expert's palate, and a shared love of coffee.

My sister gifted this whole bean coffee for Christmas and we use cold brew method, 10 ounces to 9 cups of water. When I first opened the bag the aroma hooked me. I told my wife to smell it and she commented, you could get high of this stuff! Lol

I agree with other writers. I use a drip coffee maker and this is the only blend that comes close to the way it tastes in the coffee shop. Now that it's available at Costco, I'm in heaven!

I lived in Berkeley for a number of years - and used to purchase MD at the Peet's mother store. While I miss Berkeley, I continue to buy MD, usually at Costco in a two pound bag. We grind the beans every morning. It is part of our ritual.

Well, it’s over. I am over critical of my very 1st cuppa coffee in the morning. I had tasted overall very good coffee sweetie years. I can honestly say this is one of the best of the best! I could continue searching that ultimate coffee , But my journey ends here. After my first sale I was contemplating, is this from my journey ends? Is it expensive, it is not cheap. But, how can you put a value on your inner total satisfaction, you can’t! Peets With major D’s has met my goal. Thank you, Bob Wilson, Fayetteville Ohio

I have been drinking MD for the last seven years, but lately I have found it to be less complex, less flavorful in taste. The process of preparing it is consistent. Wife and friends agree that my coffee is not up to snuff anymore.
