About this coffee

Coffee story

Established more than 100 years ago, the Kenya Auction is the ultimate meritocracy for coffee, with the top prices awarded to the most exquisite lots, sampled in cupping rooms around the world. Many people say Kenyan coffee is the best there is; we don't think there's any better Kenyan coffee than our Auction Lot.

When the crop is at its seasonal best in March and April, we work with our longstanding partner in Kenya to narrow hundreds of top-grade lots at auction down to a select few that meet our standards for perfection. It's an absolute frenzy — we receive samples directly from the auction and have only a day to taste, debate, compare, and decide on our bids. With the emergence of private sales a few years ago, we will also purchase outside the auction, but only from the same august co-op societies, in the same small bag quantities, and typically at even higher prices.

Fortunately, more than 25 years of experience buying directly from the Kenya Auction gives us an advantage in this competition. Our approach is precision buying at the highest level, and we bid only on the choicest single lots, rather than stock blends created by exporters. And although we may walk away with the prize, the real winners are Kenya coffee drinkers who love its juicy, complex flavors, brown-sugar sweetness, and dazzling dark berry aromas.

Amazing is the only way to describe this coffee! It's one of the best coffees from Africa I've ever tasted.

This Kenya Auction Lot is some of the finest Peet's coffee I have had the pleasure of drinking. I hope the rumor that it is being phased out is fake news.

I've been drinking Peet's coffee since the 1980s and I've had love affairs with numerous blends, each seeming to be the best. For the last few years it's been Kenya Auction Lot, an all time favorite. I was completely heart broken two days ago to discover that you're phasing it out soon. I'm tempted to rent a small storage unit and buy as many pounds as possible just to enjoy the delightfully smooth, warm, rich flavor of this coffee until the very last drop. Nothing else compares.

this is my favorite so far..! A consistently bold and "gulp-able" coffee. With a soft fruit and mild spice notes but very very smooth... like silk...no acidic and/or bitter aftertaste.... If only Hawaiian coffees could be so good or even close in quality.... Thank you Peet's Coffee for being consistent on this one from Kenya 2 years now..! I have yet to find one that makes my pallet so happy...! at a pound of whole beans per week consumed, its my one reason to be happy waking up for...
Aloha...! from your happy Hawaiian subscriber

WOW!!!! We have been Peet's fans since 1987 when friends gave us our first pound as a thank you gift. After that we used to make a special trip to the old Peet's in the backwoods of San Fran every time we visited. We even purchased an extra suitcase once just to bring home enough Peet's Coffee until our next visit from Indiana. We now live in Ohio and are avid Peet's drinkers. I have had some amazing coffee from Peet's, but this is by far the best. We just received two pounds in the mail, I made a pot and immediately ordered 4 more pounds!!!! I usually drink my coffee light (w/cream), but after tasting this I went full Monty without cream and even poured it over ice for some more before I went to bed!!! It is so smooth it didn't need sugar to cut the acid of most iced coffees. I thought the organic conga was my favorite, It just got bumped.
