How It Tastes

Full-bodied, broad, and aromatic. Richly textured with earthy, nutty, character.

History

Created by Alfred Peet and long a favorite of Peet's baristas, Garuda is one of our first blends. It originates in the islands of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, where each single-origin coffee develops distinctly different flavor characteristics due to the unique production and processing methods across the archipelago. Hand-pulped village coffees impart a rustic earthiness and nutty flavors; fully washed beans lend a lively spark; the blend exudes syrupy consistency and is infused with tropical airs. We think it makes an excellent espresso, and we know it makes a big, satisfying cup.

Worth Noting

We don't know if the mythical bird that is the namesake of the blend visited each of the coffee islands, from Sumatra to Sulawesi to Java to Timor, and on to Irian Jaya/Papua New Guinea and the spice islands of the Moluccas, but we craft Garuda to reflect their diversity. The Garuda blend is one of my new favorites. I love it's rich-nutty deliciousness, it's my new comfort brew for cold Colorado mornings. I look forward to waking up in the morning, if I could drink it all day I would. Now I'm going to have to buy three bags at a time because I gotta have my Arabian Mocha Java and Espresso Forte too. Peets, you're the best.

My favorite coffee for the last 16 years and going. Ground #6 drip or Bialetti moka express. Super!

Bold, dark, honeyed, juicy. I love most Peet's blends, but Garuda has been my favorite all along. I burr grind 4 - 7 scoops to brew in my Frieling French press every morning. The strength varies depending on the amount of sleep vs. activity for the day! When people come over and I make coffee for them, they always want to know what it is and how they can make it for themselves at home.

Garuda Blend has been our house coffee for a decade. Nothing like the subtle, nutty aroma when brewing that first pot in the morning. The taste: smooth, full bodied, redolent of earthy spice. Can't buy it in stores here in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs et al) so we get it by mail, delivered within 2 days of roasting. We need a Peet's store here in La Quinta or Palm Desert!

I did an earlier review and think I forgot to include my name & a rating...5 Star...An amazing pearing of perfect roast/bean...I was a barista in Ocean Shores when I discovered Garuda at the Peet's in Seattle...I think Queen Anne, (not Rose Hill, as I previously stated). I did the review a few hours ago... Keep up the good matches!
