About this coffee

Coffee story

The Jimma region, west of Addis Ababa, has the same superb coffee potential as Sidamo, its renowned sister region to the south. But Jimma’s farmers lacked the tradition of washed processing, organized business practices, and access to quality roasting companies.

So in 2013 we partnered with our longtime collaborators, the nonprofit TechnoServe, to provide hands-on training in best coffee practices to eight local cooperatives. Our partner co-ops now proudly produce elegant, floral, citrusy coffees that command premium prices – which means better prospects for the farmers and their families.

In fact, these coffees are so good that we’ve featured them with our Peets.com customers for four years running. (For anyone keeping score, last year’s standout was produced by Cocola Cooperative, our 2015 favorite was from the Lelisa Halo group, and 2014 was from Doyo Co-op.)

This year’s pick, from the Alaga Sekala co-op, is floral and fresh, with a vibrant lemon-drop sweetness and just a hint of cardamom. And just like every year, our Ethiopia Jimma offering delivers a bright cup and brighter prospects.
