About this coffee

Coffee story

March is a glorious month, when dozens of peak-of-harvest samples arrive from Mt. Kenya. Thanks to a perfect storm of location (right on the equator), altitude (1,750 meters), climate (two rainy seasons per year), and terroir (ideal), coffee from this region is intensely sweet, with a complex range of flavors, all fruity, all wonderful.

It’s an exhilarating time in the cupping room as we choose our favorites from famed co-op societies, cupping through dozens of auction samples and selecting the most brilliant coffees from the best of Kenya’s prime coffee regions. This year’s top lot is Kangocho, from Nyeri County, offering dazzling acidity and ripe fruit sweetness with plush, juicy layers and elegant florals.

After impatiently awaiting its arrival from Kenya’s Port of Mombasa, we are now thrilled to offer this superb cup. Enjoy this Peet’s favorite while it lasts. We’ll be counting the days to the next auction season.

Just received my Kenya Kangocho. This coffee is very deep in flavor, and complexity...the only question I have is the roast. It's definitely not "dark roast", which is my favorite type. Don't know if there was a mistake in roasting, or advertising. Probably won't order again. I'll stick to my Kenya Auction LOT....IT'S WONDERFUL.

A classic Kenya coffee and roasted to the darker side in the Peets style. This is about as good as coffee gets for me. I love the balance between rich and lively in body. Aromas spot-on for Kenya,
