About this coffee

Coffee story

In the words of Peet's Roastmaster Emeritus Jim Reynolds, "Coffee can be a powerful means of doing good." That sentiment is the soul of this blend, a unique combination of exquisite coffees from smallholder farmers throughout Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.

Our partnership with the non-profit TechnoServe gives many of these farmers hands-on training to increase the yield and quality of their coffee crops so they can command more favorable prices. Over the years it’s been rewarding and inspiring to see many farmers, through their cooperatives, build schools, install power lines, and provide their communities access to affordable food, among other projects.

It was the farmers who gave this truly sustainable, distinctly African blend its name, Uzuri—which is Swahili for beautiful or excellent. We don't think there's any better way to describe coffee with such a flowery fragrance, smooth, malty-sweet flavors, and dark berry juiciness. Uzuri...beautiful.

I was hoping to buy African Uzuri in bulk as it is the most satisfying coffee I've had. Can't seem to find it online cheaper than at retailers. It is anywhere from 5-7 dollars more than at my local supermarket.

I was a Blend 101 drinker for 40 years and devastated when they discontinued it. On the verge of tears, I threw myself upon the mercy of the baristas at your new New York location and they recommended Uzuri African. Not expecting much (I have always preferred South American coffees, for whatever reason) I gave it a try.

It is truly amazing coffee. I drink it at home, I drink it at work. Even while reading the morning paper with all the mayhem in the world today, when I drink Uzuri, I'm happy.

It's fine with me if they discontinue it in 40 years, I'll be dead by then. But in the meantime, this is my coffee for life.

In hopes of, perhaps, discovering a better tasting coffee in Peet's lineup, I try others. It is a waste of time and money.
This blend is rich ... full-bodied ... never, ever bitter on the palate, no matter how strong you may brew it.
And, as far as I am concerned, sold at a bargain price ... or ... said another way, you simply do not have to spend $90 per pound to get this kind of satisfying flavor.
This is the very best, end of story ... IMHO, of course.

About ten years ago, I worked on a project with farmers in Rwanda to develop high-quality coffee for the first time in that country. It is rewarding to see that Peet's has chosen to include Rwandan coffee in this beautiful (Uzuri) blend. I believe this is the best coffee that I have ever had!

Just tried this today. No big surprise that I LOVE it, since I love your Kenya & your Tanzania is amazing. I can hardly wait for the weekend, when I have time to make some pour over with it. The Tanzania Peaberry, by the way, made some of the best pour over I have ever tasted. And, like the Kenya, it was also great iced. I am sure that this will work well over ice also. Thanks & keep up the good work!
