How It Tastes
Deliciously juicy and densely sweet, with subtle notes of dried cherry and black tea.
History
In Burundi’s northern province of Kayanza, this high-altitude coffee displays the best of the original Bourbon variety — densely sweet with subtle notes of cherry and black tea. The washing stations at Yandaro and Gakenke meticulously prepared this selection, fully washed and sun-dried.
There’s a lot of interest recently from specialty coffee buyers as the quality of Burundi coffee has been improving with investment in infrastructure. We have been especially pleased with the samples we’ve tasted this season, Burundi Kayanza being our single favorite, and we’re excited to share it with employees and customers.
Worth Noting
High altitude, abundant rainfall and volcanic soils create ideal conditions for growing coffee. Kayanza Province is known for being the source of the Nile River. This coffee is from smallholder farmers from 22 surrounding villages.
