How It Tastes

Inherently sweet and aromatic with a clean finish.

Baridi, Swahili for cold, reflects the Peet’s point of view on cold brewed coffee. Some beans make much better cold brewed coffee than others, so we set out to craft a blend designed specifically to be refreshing and delicious over ice. That means finding beans with the perfect flavor notes and roast profile to be bold up front with a crisp, clean finish, and we put a lot of extra time and care into selecting ours.

Worth Noting

The roast for this particular blend is more in a medium style, for a payoff that is as surprising as it is sweet. That's why even though it's an excellent hot coffee, this blend makes the ideal cold brewed coffee.

I've been drinking Peet's since the late 70's when I lived in the Bay Area, and I've always stuck with dark roasts till now. I took a chance on this medium roast so I could make cold press coffee with it, and because I recently began to experiment with World Brewer Champion Tetsu Kasuya's 4:6 method for V60 pour over drippers and thought Baridi might be a perfect blend for that method. And it is! The Kasuya 4:6 method calls for a coarse roast, as does cold press, so I use the same grind for each, with results that to my palate are perfect. Really glad I took a chance on Baridi Blend, which I thoroughly enjoy hot or cold.

Hands-down these are the best beans for cold brew, even local coffee roasters in my neighborhood cannot compare. And I am a coffee snob. What makes it so great is a delicious rich CHOCOLATE flavor. Who does not like chocolate? When you add cream, it feels like you are having chocolate milk (but with zero sugar and minimal calories). It also calms your stomach, cold brew coffee is naturally less acidic. No sour or bitterness like other coffee beans. If you do the math, you will save about 50% of the price doing cold brew at home.

My wife says this coffee smells yucky before and during brewing. To me it seams to taste ok. She wont touch it to drink.

Very tasty for making cold brew.

Seriously one of the best medium roasts out there. I love it cold, which brings out the crisp finish. Pairs well with a donut! :)
