How It Tastes

Grown high up on the hillside, Borbon, the original heirloom variety, shines here. Each cup of El Salvador San Carlos Dos is elegant and citrus-bright with prominent acidity balanced by raw sugar sweetness. Sweet in the cup and sustainable on the ground, this limited edition medium roast is a newfound pleasure.

In the shadow of the volcano Cacahuatique, a remarkable cooperative is changing our perception of El Salvador coffee. While the west of El Salvador, where most of the nation’s coffee is produced, is home to the renowned estates, San Carlos Dos is nestled in the east, with 27 plots circling the cooperative’s mills. Massive drying patios built to take advantage of the locally arid climate look out toward the Honduran border.

Worth Noting

In an area where many of the workers have turned to cattle-farming, these coffee growers have banded together to pool resources. The land where they farm is a key watershed for the region; in the past, poor practices led to the water table’s total depletion during the dry season. With sustainability training at the farm level, the members of San Carlos Dos are implementing good soil and water management practices to improve access to water throughout the entire region. This replenishment benefits their harvest as well; the cooperative’s energy and investment are paying off in impeccable coffee.

I am shocked this doesn't have higher stars! This is one of the best coffees I have ever the pleasure of drinking. I am going to be really sad when this coffee is gone because it is a remarkable cup. This coffee is so good that the old coffee we didn't toss is good tepid in the morning. That is insane!!! I know it is a medium roast but dont' let that deter you get it now!

It's always a treat to try a non-dark roast from Peet's. Press pot, pour-over, or cold brew, this is a great coffee. Classic medium roast profile that strikes the perfect balance.

3 star review because the coffee is fresh, Peet's service is great, and the beans are fresh. I would rate the taste of this blend a 2 Star. I am a Small Batch subscriber. I have LOVED each order I have received for the past several months. But this month I am not too happy with the El Salvador San Carlos Dos. It is just kind of basic. It also is too mild. I have tried using more beans to give it some richness but it is blah. Sorry Peet's. I love your coffees but not this one :-(
