How It Tastes

A jewel of Rwandan coffee: malty sweet and soft with piquant notes of cranberry and cola nut, finished with an almost syrupy fruit liqueur. It’s a coffee of song and sustainability, a true success story, and a joyous cup to drink.

In Rulindo District, where the workers sing traditional songs as they wash the coffee, we noticed a washing station close to a river. Sugars from the de-pulped coffee cherries were washing downstream, disrupting the balance of the riparian environment. With training from TechnoServe, our partner in Farmer Assistance, the farmers planted a break of vetiver between the station and the river, a natural filter that prevents the fruit residue from entering the water. Balance restored and business bolstered by their investment in environmental stability, the farmers could focus on producing spectacular coffee.

Worth Noting

Rwanda has emerged as a little jewel of a coffee origin, a small, verdant country with hundreds of village washing stations. With good organization and good leadership, these groups produce top-notch coffee. Across the country, we’re lucky enough to have transparent insight into the fields where the coffee is planted and harvested, the working conditions of the farmers, and any potential areas for growth.

Pretty good. Pleasant acidity that isn't overly sour and acts as a nice compliment to the medium-dark roast.

Adore this. I’ve had only as espresso, and it is divine. SMOOTH, bright finish. Envelopes senses.

This roast is absolutely perfect....well balanced and very smooth. No aftertaste....really leaves you dreaming about your next cup. Well done Peets.
