How It Tastes

A satisfying, full-bodied cup with deep, pungent flavor and a hint of smokiness just below the surface.

We love Costa Rica for its natural beauty, vivacious people, and high social and environmental standards. But most of all, we love it for the excellent coffee that reflects all these qualities. While the fine coffees of this Central American country are featured in many of our signature blends, we save the most distinctive lots for our single-origin Costa Rica. Most frequently selected are finds from the fabled (and shrinking) region of Tres Rios, high lemony coffees from the Zona de Los Santos in Tarrazu, or our favorite single estate of Doka on the shoulders of the Poás volcano. Here our longstanding partners the Vargas family produce a broad shouldered cup, that springs not only from their deep agronomic expertise, but acute social consciousness and environmental stewardship.

Worth Noting

This coffee is consistently of the highest quality, with the brightness and spicy notes the best high-grown Latin American beans are known for.

Costa Rica is a delicious mild dark blend. Not many flavors pop out to me except that it's just delicious. I've tried many of Peet's and it's certainly one of my favorites. New Guinea highlands is up there too. I've only bought 1 flavor I didn't like and I can't even remember the name although it was a VERY rare blend but tasted like dirt to me but smelled delicious, which made zero sense to me. Some coffee's smell so good that are not good and some have no smell and are delicious. This one didn't have an overwhelming smell and has a light acidity but it's not too much, it's right on the money. Normally I prefer a very non-acidic taste but I wanted a change and I'm glad I made it. It's also not a very powerful caffeine coffee so you could drink it and feel decent... no jitters. I'm just glad it doesn't taste like Starbucks burnt beans.

Sooo smooth and rich..Costa Rica has some of the best coffee in the world. Thanx Peets for keeping it true and authentic. Peets roasting is bar none STILL superior.

When I first introduced by my co-worker back in 1997, I never look back to find other brands. Even when new roast houses establish around SF bay area, Peet's is still my top choice. I was hook with Panama for few years until vanish from the list. Then I tried all other favor and finally settle with Costa Rica and occasionally Guatemala for a change. Costa Rica pack everything you desire coffee bean from South America: sweet note, fruity hint, full body coffee aroma and low acidity. Highly recommend if you haven't try it.

This is a remarkably complete coffee. I usually blend Latin American coffees with Indonisian coffee to get a broad range of flavors, but it wasn't necessary here. This has all the diverse flavor of a blend without being a blend. Amazing. And the aroma is incredible. Ever consider selling coffee-scented candles?

When I became a Peet's subscription customer over 20 years ago, we tried everything. Indonesia, Africa-all of it. But when we hit on Costa Rica, that is our all time favorite. Spicy, full, rich without being muddy as so many full bodied coffees can be. A completely clean finish. I only wish it were carried in stores!
