How It Tastes

Hibiscus aroma with passion fruit sweetness. Delicate, apricot finish.

History

The region known as Kona on Hawaii's big island has been synonymous with superb coffee for more than 150 years. Steep volcanic hillsides and a microclimate of sunny mornings and cloudy afternoons create the perfect conditions for cultivating smooth, sweet-flavored beans. Follow the Old Mamalahoa Highway, and you'll see coffee growing on both sides of the road — but the best comes from the mauka, or mountain side. That's where the trees reach their natural willowy height, requiring harvesters to pull the ripe cherries closer with hooks. We think the refined flavors of these beans make them well worth the extra effort. That's why only the highest grown, highest quality Kona from a single estate on the mauka goes into this reserve. The taste is mild and mellow, with a hint of tropical sweetness; it's like Hawaiian hospitality in a cup.

Worth Noting

Like our other reserve coffees, Kona is only available in limited quantities — 1/2-lb. bags — and roasted to order just once a week, exclusively on Wednesdays. We do this to make sure it's as fresh as possible when you receive it. Orders must be placed on or before each Tuesday, and are shipped within 24 hours of roasting. You also have the option of choosing a future Wednesday shipment at checkout.

Concur with other reviews. This Kona is very poor. You couldn't even tell it's Kona without the bag. No taste/no smell. JR Reserve much better at same price point.

What a nice take on Kona and I disagree with some previous comments, I like the darkness of this roast, but I respect some want a lighter brew. I am a major Major Dickerson fan so this was a nice treat. If you are looking for that wow feeling you had when you were sitting on the hotel Lanai in Maui sipping your first cup of Kona coffee that delighted all your senses to the highest level. No, that's asking quite a bit from Coffee especially if you are sitting on a fire escape in New Jersey. But the richness of this roast is excellent, deep complex flavor with just a slight nut taste and no bitterness. Very well done Peets!!!

Lets burn an excellent bean and may be someone will not care what it tastes like.WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!
This coffee sucks and it is all because of how dark they roast it. If I wanted dark undrinkable coffee I will go to Starbucks.

Burnt Coffee is Burnt Coffee., If it is is oily and bitter like a French roast then is is great for Mocha and sweet flavorful mixes But I can't tell the difference between burnt Kona or Burnt Colombian or Burnt Kenya coffee.s.
