How It Tastes

We initially intended to showcase Guatemala Huehuetenango in our 100% women-grown 2019 Anniversary Blend, paired with exceptional coffees from Rwanda and Colombia. But the first samples from the new crop did not taste at their peak. Now they do. This coffee shines, and we’re taking the very first chance to share it in all its Guatemalan glory. Here is the signature milk chocolate, with a floral hint at the front, a fresh dose of stone fruit, ample acidity, and the big, big cup. We’ve never been so happy to be kept waiting.

In the far northern region of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, vertiginous elevations and limestone soils make for a bold and distinctive coffee. We celebrate it for its palpable regional character—big and lush, with plenty of fruit notes. While we expect that a Huehue (pronounced “way-way”) cup will be big and flavorful, a group of women in the town of La Libertad are taking it to the next level.

Worth Noting

The road to building a cooperative of their own was not easy for these women coffee farmers. Over time, however, they gained title to their own parcels of land, an autonomy-boosting gamechanger in improving their lives and socioeconomic status. To diversify their incomes, they produce and sell their own organic fertilizer and run a small bakery out of a cooperative member’s home. And of course, their sustainably grown specialty coffee is spectacular.

Really great tasting coffee! Tried it with a coffee press, and then the drip method. A richer flavor come through with the drip method. Gotta get some more!

This is a very bold cup of coffee so be prepared for it to knock your socks off. It is truly a Dark Roast. Great flavor, smooth rich cup. A little darker than I am used to but delicious.

This is excellent coffee. I'm ordering another pound. Peets regularly finds some of the best coffees I know of, but this one is particularly good.

Five Stars. Among the best Explorer Series Coffees Peet's has offered. Toasted almonds and pear.

This are absolutely delicious beans! Really bold and rich with mild undertones of the chocolate. I appreciate that they are not overly fruity - I will definitely order again! This is a must try!
