How It Tastes

With its full body, pungent taste and woodsmoke aroma, each cup is hearty, smoky, and strong. This blend is evocative of a Scottish hearth, and is a great cold-weather tea.

Combining India teas with the unmistakable smokiness of Lapsang Souchong, this rich, hearty brew is impossible to ignore. Leaf sizes range from small, flaky Broken Orange Pekoe to long Souchong grade whole leaves.

Tastes like a combination of a 300 year old pub with dirty socks from a rugby team

The review from Joshua echos my own with regards to this current blend vs the old Scottish Breakfast under the Peets label. Sadly lacking the smoky rich tones that I loved about the original.

Peet's Scottish breakfast tea has been my favorite tea since I first encountered it (see above review), but in spite of the claim of the person I talked to at Peets, the mixture has definitely changed. Lost is the smokiness of Lapsang Souchong and in its place is an almost acrid taste. I took the last of my old batch and a bag of the new to my local coffee & tea shop whose founder, Jamie Anderson, trained under Peet many years ago. The workers there agreed, both that the teas are very different and that Peet's has changed. Sadly, since they combined with Mighty Leaf, Peet's tea quality has noticeably declined. Anderson's does not even source their tea through Peet's any more after all these years. It is a sad day, but with the help of the folks at Andersons, I'll hope to figure out how to get close to Peet's old formula.

This has been a favorite tea of mine for years. The last time it was offered up for sale by Peet’s, I mistakenly thought I had plenty and didn’t make a purchase. I was wrong and have had to go months without my Scottish Breakfast Tea! The way I am jonesing for it made me realize I have to write a review. This tea is really really really deeply soul-fulfilling good! Try some, you’ll be so glad you did!

This is the best tea in the known, and probably the unknown, universe. There is literally nothing one can't accomplish after drinking this tea, except to feel bad. Rich, bold, smooth and just smoky enough...
