Organic Black Tea Leaves

How It Tastes

The best Darjeeling tea shows amazing complexity and can seem to change with every sip. Organic Darjeeling Kalimpong offers a multilayered, honey-colored cup; with sweet floral nutty notes; and brisk, winey muscat grape flavor. The aroma of this special Second Flush tea seem to reach right out of the cup.

In the foothills of the Himalayas, Organic Darjeeling Kalimpong tea is grown at a high elevation—up to 6,000 feet—where the cool air slows leaf growth and develops fine character. Fragrant teas have been produced here for 150 years, ever since the British founded a summer 'hill station' here to escape the heat of Calcutta. Meticulously hand-plucked and produced in small batches, this tea seems to capture the mountain air: sweet, winey, and floral.

i love this darjeeling and actually seek it out. the only other darjeeling i drink now is one from joseph wesley. play around w/ amount of tea used, steeping time, and water temp. it's quite a lovely second flush.

I've been drinking Peet's Darjeeling Kalimpong before it acquired Mighty Leaf, and I didn't see any change in quality. I really don't know how it compares to other Darjeelings, but this is my favorite kind of Peet's tea.

I used to order Peet's teas in bulk. My favorites were the old Ceylon Fancy, the Darjeeling Kalimpong, and the Dragonwell. They have slowly eroded quality in their tea business...they long ago stopped offering an excellent, consistent Sri Lankan/Ceylon Fancy blend that was an everyday workhorse, the Kalimpong used to be fragrant, whole dull green leaves just bursting with flavor and aroma. Now it's broken and browned and smells like dust. Even the Dragonwell has gone downhill. It's a mess! I was loyal to Peets because of their teas. There are 51 specialty coffee places I can walk into within 5 miles of my house, but for teas, it used to be just Peets. I've been noticing this downward quality trend for years now and have mentioned it to them before...I don't think a miracle will come and reverse course here so it's time for us tea lovers to move on to another source. Upland Teas and some of the others noted in these reviews. Bookmark the websites and move on from Peets.

I've been drinking Peet's teas for more than 20 years either when I visit Berkeley or through mail order. What an enormous disappointment Mighty Teas are. I have switched to Harney Teas for the special teas I enjoy by mail order. They have several different darjeelings I'm trying.

I agree with all other reviewers. Since Peets switched to Mighty Leaf, all of their teas are a disappointment. I tend to drink the Mighty Leaf Darjeeling version when I visit a Peets store, but this is only because it is the best of a bad lot of choices. I have to steep the tea just right to get a so-so cup of tea. If I brew it longer to make it stronger and hopefully more flavorful, it becomes very bitter. This can happen quickly from pour to strain. I wish you would return your older line up or at the very least acknowledge your mistake and attempt to remedy it. FYI, I've been coming to Peets for more than 20 years.
