About this coffee

Coffee Story

We love natural Brazil coffees. They’re sweet, body-driven, and produce luscious espresso. The best examples exude a flavor like just-roasted hazelnuts. Minas is for Minas Gerais [mee-nas zher-ice], the biggest and we think best producing state located in the south-center of Brazil.

Naturais is Brazilian Portuguese for natural, the bean preparation method we most prefer in this part of the world. It takes sun, and plenty of it, to dry all the way through the skin and sweet pulp of the coffee fruit to the seeds inside. This is done on well-tended patios, where whole cherries are raked continuously, and also on the trees, where a portion of the pickings are left to dry on the branch.

For the record, all of our favorite farms also produce coffees by the “pulped natural” method, which involves removing the skin and some of the fruit pulp from the outset, and the “washed” method, which fully removes it, as is the standard in countries like Costa Rica. In Brazil, with lower altitudes and less acidity, we find the typical washed coffee to be somewhat bland.

Brazil Minas Naturais is anything but, making maximal effect of slow sun drying for a thoroughly sweet cup with mild fruit and caramel notes, unctuous hazelnut and smooth, full body.

Introduced to this coffee by a friend in Seattle. I live in NC and found it in my local store. I love the smooth, sweet taste of this medium roast. I enjoy it so much that I haven't tried any other flavors!!!

Com saudades (longing for our home in Belo Horizonte, MG Brasil). This wonderful coffee is very similar to that which we enjoy in Brasil, but even better because it's for personal consumers and not a commercial restaurant grind. We enjoy this anytime of the day, usually with meals, along with some candied citrus peel. It's the real café mineiro and it tastes just like home! Muito obrigado!

"Just a Jersey Girll living in a Jersey World" and YES Dunkin Donuts does not do it for me...switched to Star Bucks but still not my cup of Joe...first experience with Peets was Luminous and stepped back and said hell no...found Cafe Domingo and was is heaven but now cheated with Brazil Minas Naturale...and I am hooked...Thank you for sharing my 5:30 am wake ups...

Just tried this coffee for the first time and I love it. It is full bodied, not bitter, and thoroughly enjoyable. I like darker coffees and I know this coffee says medium bend, but I think this coffee has the perfect blend of being flavorful, well balanced, not too dark or light. Really pleased to have found this. Thanks again Peet's, for making great coffee!

One of my favorite Peet's coffee! Smooth, nutty, naturally sweet, medium roast is the perfect discription.

Interesting balance of smoothness and lingering, bright acidity. Surprising, distinctive flavor, something almost like green onion riding on top. Seems to brew best at a lower temperature, with everything coming into a better balance. As you get toward a boiling temperature, too much of that interesting but strange green onion flavor takes over. At a lower temperature, more of what folks are calling the hazelnut/vanilla flavor comes in.
