Fresh, vegetal and smooth, with hearty roasted grain aroma
About this product

Product details

One of Japan's most unique teas, Genmai Cha means “roasted rice tea.” This blend originated in an era when tea was a barely affordable luxury; Japanese peasants would stretch their precious supply by mixing it with comparatively inexpensive roasted rice. Over time, the toasty, malty-smooth flavor developed an international following.

Ours features a superior grade of top quality Sencha with hulled, boiled and roasted rice grains that are skillfully processed and strictly graded. The result is a very drinkable beverage with a rounded body and satisfying aroma.

Peet's Genmai Cha is now a Mighty Leaf tea. Same origin, same flavor, same quality.

I've loved Peet's forever, especially their Summer house Iced, and their Jasmine. Mighty leaf is decent at best. The Cha is terrible. I 'm also fairly certain most of the 5 stars reviews praising any of their teas are corporate. Like I said it's okay tea, but nothing like what it used to be.

Before joining Mighty Leaf Tea in 2012, tea was not high on my list of preferred beverages. I can say now that being surrounded by such a wide range of high quality tea blends day after day has moved tea up the list.

One of my all time favorite blends is the Genmai Cha. The combination of roasted rice grains and Sencha green tea gives a warm toasty aroma and light/airy buttery flavor. There is just something so comforting about this tea blend. It is like a hug in a cup.
