Black tea leaves

How It Tastes

Pride of the Port tea is composed of our favorite black teas from India and China, and blended for balance and resounding character.  Bold, malty, sweet, and brisk, it makes a great go-to cup for the morning.  The subtle floral, red wine, and honeycomb notes in the background give this tea its unique profile.

In 1866, Joshua Lane Jordan set sail from Maine in the merchant ship The Pride of the Port. With the western Pacific and India as his destinations, he traded goods from America to the other side of the world and back again. Over 150 years later, his great-great-grandson—our esteemed tea buyer, Eliot Jordan—set out to craft a premium blend of China and India black teas that paid homage to this familiar and familial route.

Huge decline in quality with 'Mighty Leaf'-labeled teas, which are all that Peet's offers now. I've tried several teas to check consistency, and every one was nothing but flavorless twigs and 'tea dust'; what happened!? No longer a Peet's tea customer!

I used to enjoy this tea, but my latest batch was almost powdery at times, and the rich flavor was missing. I then purchased a 1/4lb tin at a store last weekend to see if it was just my large batch that was disappointing, but this was equally so.
Having discovered that Santa Rosa Peet's no longer stocks Yunnan Fancy, even for onsite consumption, and that the baristas had never even heard of it, I don't think I will be a Peet's Tea customer for much longer ... Then there was the 12oz Mighty Leaf Earl Grey Tea ($3.75) at SFO the following day. Not a hint of Bergamot.

Fantastic black tea. It's all I drink now. Full bodied and flavorful. Caution - do not over brew or it will be very bitter. Three or four minutes brew time - tops.
