Our original coffeebar blends nostalgic charm and intentional design: thick wooden counters, legacy roasting equipment in view, and walls echoing the stories of early “Peetnik” patrons enjoying bold French and Major Dickason’s blends. We pride ourselves on maintaining the same high standards Alfred Peet set: hand roasting small batches of coffee, serving fresh pots every 30 minutes, and engaging customers in conversations about flavor—and coffee history.

Why 2124 Vine St is so Special Here at Peet’s

This location is where it all began: Alfred Peet opened the very first Peet’s Coffee shop here on April 1, 1966, introducing dark—or, what he called at the time, deeply—roasted arabica beans to Californians and igniting the specialty coffee revolution.

It’s the birthplace of “Peetniks”: This shop kickstarted the movement of craft coffee in America—customers dubbed themselves “Peetniks” and gathered in the same spot where legends appreciate coffee today.
