GINGER TWIST - LIME MOCKTAIL RECIPE
Self-Care Made Delicious
The start of the school year can be hectic. Keeping things as simple as possible makes a difference, and keeping a clear head while we juggle schoolwork, carpools, and new routines is key. Taking a moment to unwind or developing our own 'happy hour' ritual are great ways to bring in a bit of self-care. And sometimes, self-care can be downright delicious. Case in point, a steaming cup of Ginger Twist or a Ginger Twist - Lime Mocktail.
This herbal tea blend teems with fragrant, invigorating spices: ginger, lemongrass, peppermint, ginseng, and licorice, plus some orange peel for a citric kick. These spices not only taste great and have eye-opening aromas, they’re also known for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, energy-boosting, and digestive properties. Since there’s no caffeine, you can happily sip away any time of day and still get a good night’s sleep—yet another important part of taking care of yourself.
Ginger Twist is an uplifting herbal tea freshly brewed in the cup, but it lends itself well to other applications, like a tongue-tingling shrub. Shrubs are vinegar-based fruit syrups, with a long history dating back to 17th century England where vinegar was used to preserve fruits through the cold seasons. These tart, bright shrubs were mixed with soda water, making the first sodas. Here, we make a Ginger Twist shrub to use in a sophisticated (and healthful) zero-proof mocktail.
GINGER TWIST - LIME MOCKTAIL
1 cup freshly drawn water
1 apple, chopped
1 lime, chopped
1 cup brown sugar or honey
1 tbsp fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
6 Ginger Twist tea pouches (tags removed) or 6 tsp loose Ginger Twist tea
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- In a small saucepan, combine the water, apple, lime, brown sugar, and ginger. Bring to a low boil for 5 minutes.
- Remove from the heat, and add in the Ginger Twist tea. Cover and allow to infuse for 10 minutes.
- Strain into a sterilized mason jar, and add the apple cider vinegar. Allow the shrub to cool before storing in the refrigerator. Keeps up to 2 weeks.
- Pour 1 oz Ginger Twist shrub into a highball or Tom Collins glass filled with ice. Gently pour 8 oz of club soda over, stir to combine, and add a squeeze of lime. Serve immediately.
