Meet the Team: Judith Ledesma – Keeping an eye on quality, one cup at a time

Ever wonder how Peet’s coffee stays so consistently delicious, year after year, cup after cup? Step inside the cupping lab, where every batch of beans is put to the test. We caught up with Judith Ledesma, Cupping Lab Coordinator and Bay Area Peetnik, to get a taste of life inside the lab.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT PEET’S? 
As the Cupping Lab Coordinator at the Peet’s home office in Emeryville, I manage the day-to-day operations of the cupping lab. Cupping is the process of brewing, smelling, and tasting coffee to evaluate its quality. My role includes logging, roasting, and cupping coffee samples. While the work might sound routine, each day brings something new to learn and explore.

CAN YOU GIVE US A PEEK BEHIND THE SCENES? 
There’s never a dull moment in the Coffee Department, and I love how our team comes together to navigate the challenges that come with an agricultural product like coffee. It’s especially rewarding to see how we work as one unit to solve problems and ensure our customers continue to enjoy the roasted coffee they know and love. I take a lot of pride in working alongside talented coffee professionals.

WHY DID YOU WANT TO WORK AT PEET’S?
I’m a California native who grew up in the East Bay. Peet’s holds an important place in Bay Area history and continues to be a respected force in the coffee industry, so it felt like the right place to begin my journey as a young professional. My experience here has been incredibly positive. I’ve met so many talented and supportive people, and I’m grateful to contribute to a company built on passion, quality, and craftsmanship.
